Place Life Colour

About me

and all my colours!

Welcome to the colour -saturated work of an Ely artist. It’s nice to meet you!

So why Place Life Colour? Let me break it down for you.

Place

I’ve travelled extensively over the years, and before settling in Ely I lived in a village near  Heppenheim, in Gemany.  I also have a family connection to Norway. As a result of this love of travel, I am fascinated by the specific atmosphere of a place and  capturing this in my paintings. One such example is the bustling, colourful and wholly non-corporate feel of  Essaouira, a port city on Morocco’s Atlantic coast.

Another would be my approach to a dystopian future, starring Ely Cathedral.

Life

My work isn’t just about human life, although I do love painting portraits and capturing people in day  to day moments such as chatting or arguing at a market. It’s also the parts of life that you might sometimes not notice, such as vegetation bursting through a wall or a road, or a gust of wind  moving a skirt around someone’s legs. Or the way a crowd of men at a market might look to a group of goats for sale. I choose my colours carefully (or wildly) to express what I see and feelabout such scenes.

Colour

I am rarely monochrome, both in life and in my paintings, and I love bright and rich colours. That is my passion and obsession whern making art. Equally when sewing or knitting, for that matter However, as an artist I know that less is often more. I believe that the beauty of colour often  show best in a palette of three hues, a different set for each artwork or series (blog post on this coming up soon).
