Telling Stories
In late 2020, I took a course from Tracy Verdugo, about telling stories through art.
It was strange and rather disturbing, I loved it.
I found that inspiration for stories can be found in random words, poetry, and in strange conjunctions.
You can see some examples of this work here. Like any experimental form, some of them didn’t work at all but that’s the exciting thing about seeking inspiration!
I used acrylic for all of these story paintings but not just acrylic. There was plenty of collage and other kinds of mark making* as well.
Some of the images are in sketchbooks, others are on A3 sheets of watercolour paper.
* “mark making” is a technical term. Not all artists tools are brushes and pencils. Nice pointy sticks are great, so are pipettes, for drizzling. Also drinking straws for blowing ink around.
